Program Associate, Project Firstline

Overview:

The National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) is an active network comprised of over forty-member public health institutes located throughout all ten Health and Human Services regions. NNPHI also serves as the National Coordinating Center for Public Health Training (NCCPHT) and hosts an affiliate network of ten Regional Public Health Training Centers (Regional PHTCs) serving all fifty states and US territories. Public health institutes (PHIs) are nonprofit organizations that improve the public’s health by fostering innovation, leveraging resources, and building partnerships across sectors, including government agencies, communities, the health care delivery system, media, and academia. NNPHI and its member institutes work together to implement public health policy and program initiatives throughout the nation. NNPHI offices are located in New Orleans and Washington, DC.

The NNPHI mission is to support national public health system initiatives and strengthen public health institutes to promote multi-sector activities resulting in measurable improvements of public health structures, systems, and outcomes. NNPHI collaborates with its member public health institutes and a wide range of national, state, tribal, and local partners to support public health initiatives. These collaborative efforts promote health equity, support public health and health systems collaboration, build the capacity of the public health system, encourage health in all policies, and promote evidence-based public health practice. Position Summary:

NNPHI seeks a Program Associate to support key programmatic activity for Project Firstline (PFL) and the wider CCP portfolio. Project Firstline is a CDC-sponsored, multi-year national training collaborative focused on healthcare infection prevention and control (IPC) that aims to train all frontline healthcare professionals in the United States. NNPHI is focused on providing IPC training and support to the public health IPC workforce within healthcare. Such training includes: (1) IPC
knowledge and content; (2) IPC-related essential (soft) skills such as team communication and building rapport.

The Program Associate will work independently and collaboratively under the guidance of CCP’s program management staff to support all aspects of Project Firstline and other programing within the CCP portfolio. The Program Associate will also provide general support to other members of NNPHI staff on an ad hoc basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Program Associate will work closely with NNPHI Climate and Crisis Preparedness (CCP) programmatic staff to support all activities associated with Project Firstline (PFL) and the wider CCP portfolio. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Support Project Firstline:

  • Schedule and attend regular internal/external check-in meetings with the PFL team
  • Schedule and attend meetings with outside organizations and contractors
  • Draft and disseminate meeting agendas and minutes
  • Assist PFL team with the management of client and contractor relationships
  • Write and coordinate Request for Proposals (RFP) and track progress alongside the project Budget Manager
  • Update project timelines and work plans as instructed
  • Assist with the maintenance of PFL-related scopes of work and budgets as instructed
  • Coordinate with the NNPHI Communications team in the creation and maintenance of PFL social media posts and the maintenance of NNPHI’s PFL microsite
  • Support all required reporting activities as assigned
  • Assist with the maintenance of PFL related files
  • Support research-related activities, as needed, including literature reviews and environmental scans, searching academic databases, reading and synthesizing published studies, and assisting with the writing of reports

Support NNPHI/CCP project management staff:

  • Schedule and attend conference calls, meetings, and workgroups with other NNPHI portfolios and outside organizations
  • Schedule regular check-in meetings with CCP team
  • Attend NNPHI’s Annual Conference to provide support to CCP team
  • Draft, proofread, and edit documents and website content for the CCP portfolio, including communications materials, project materials, presentations, and reports

Support the development of the CCP Portfolio (Secondary):

  • Use personal initiative and collaboration skills to advance organizational goals
  • Embrace a quality improvement and continuous learning model
  • Collaborate with NNPHI staff and stakeholders to document and share lessons learned
  • Participate in brainstorming and project development activities exploring the intersection between healthcare and public health, environmental health, and crises preparedness
  • Assist with the development of project proposals
  • Engage in continued learning activities

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently, effectively manage time and clearly communicate with internal and external partners via multiple channels (i.e., email, virtual/ in-person meetings, and shared documents).
  • Commitment to promoting collaboration and teamwork across organizational boundaries and maintaining high standards for work products.
  • Enthusiasm for advancing our mission and extending the reach of our work
  • Experience providing administrative and coordination support for programs with a proven ability to productively manage multiple assignments simultaneously including setting and meeting deadlines (preferred, but not required)
  • Competency and experience in the use of relevant software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and the ability to quickly learn and use multiple software and online systems (i.e., Google Drive, Dropbox, Smartsheet, Salesforce, MailChimp, Canva, Zoom)
  • Prior knowledge or experience with infection prevention and control and/or familiarity with the principles of public health, clinical care, and/or clinical IPC (preferred, but not required)
  • Background and/or proven interests in adult education, education, training development and/or training implementation (preferred, but not required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, healthcare administration, social sciences, natural sciences, or related field (required), Master’s degree would be an asset (not required)
  • 2+ years of professional experience (strongly preferred, but not required)
  • College coursework in public health, social work, healthcare administration, or a related field (preferred and would be considered in lieu of professional experience)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn on the job

Job Location:

NNPHI maintains two physical offices in, Washington, DC, and New Orleans, Louisiana. We also offer Atlanta-based applicants the option to work remotely. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will commence remotely. Ultimately, NNPHI requires the position will be based in either of our three locations. Therefore, applicants should indicate their preference to work in NNPHI offices located in New Orleans, Atlanta, or Washington, DC. We will also consider applicants based outside of these locations, but preference is given to the listed locations.

Salary/Benefits:

  1. Salary range of $45,000-55,000 dependent on education, locality, and experience.
  2. A highly competitive benefits package is offered to all NNPHI staff.
  3. 10% travel is required based on location. This could be more or less based on the needs and responsibilities of the role.
