Senior Program Manager, Health and Racial Equity

Overview:

The National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) is an active network comprised of over 40 member public health institutes in 33 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Public health institutes are nonprofit organizations that improve the public’s health by fostering innovation, leveraging resources, and building partnerships across sectors, including government agencies, communities, the health care delivery system, media, and academia. NNPHI and its member institutes work together to implement public health policy and program initiatives throughout all 50 states. NNPHI offices are located in New Orleans and Washington, DC. Additional staff, consultants, members, and partners support NNPHI’s mission from several locations throughout the United States.

Position Summary:

At NNPHI, we recognize that a key element to population health improvement is ensuring and sustaining a diverse public health workforce that is reflective of all communities being served. NNPHI’s Health and Racial Equity (HRE) portfolio supports best practice to ensure the public health workforce’s ability to address the root causes of health inequities, including systemic oppression and racism. To provide the workforce training and technical assistance support necessary to ensure a public health workforce equipped to address these structural factors.

The Senior Program Manager – Health and Racial Equity will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs under the Health and Racial Equity portfolio. This position will provide high-level support to NNPHI leadership and staff, public health institutes, funders, and other partner organizations in the planning and implementation of project activities.

A successful applicant will demonstrate several years of experience in health and racial equity, as well as a proven track record of providing program management leadership, project direction and project management with federal funders and other diverse partners. This position will report to the Director, Health and Racial Equity.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Senior Program Manager – Health and Racial Equity will provide comprehensive programmatic support and oversight across all Health and Racial Equity portfolio projects, including planning and facilitating all convening activities. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Plan, coordinate, facilitate and evaluate Health and Racial Equity Portfolio activities, such as organizing convenings, project webinar series, interest groups and others
  • Lead the content and relationship development for national trainings or meetings related to assigned programs and collaborate with HRE and NNPHI staff to implement meetings and conferences
  • Oversee the data modernization work across all portfolio projects
  • Support the engagement of NNPHI team members and supervise staff as assigned; participate in performance assessments of program staff, goal setting, and support professional development on an ongoing basis
  • Facilitate advisory and other committees as needed for program implementation.
  • Facilitate small and large group meetings, internally and externally
  • Provide marketing and communications support for Health and Racial Equity initiatives and convenings, including website content, oversee marketing collateral content generation, input on meeting collateral, etc.
  • Provide post-convening reports detailing successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Collaborate with other portfolios including Convenings, Communications and NCCPHTC portfolios.
  • Identify technological tools to enhance and support NNPHI’s capacity and programs.

Qualifications:

The Senior Program Manager – Health and Racial Equity must have a Master’s degree in business, finance, public health or a related field with 7+ years of experience related to health and racial equity and convenings planning and coordination. While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:

  • Experience working with a federal funder preferred, such as Center for Disease Control
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including meeting facilitation and presentations
  • Exceptional organizational and management skills, and high attention to detail
  • Comfort with facilitating planning and strategic thinking processes, including collaborative decision-making processes
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively on a team and with diverse partners
  • Experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment: Flexibility with an ability to maneuver effectively in the face of uncertainty and transition
  • Creativity and ability to leverage data and discover potential opportunities for growth and innovation
  • Experience with customer relationship management tools such as Salesforce or other online platform; experience with the following software/systems: email marketing and campaign (such as constant contact); webinar platform software (such as: Whova, Readytalk, WebEx, JoinMe, Go To Meeting, etc.) evaluation software (Qualtrics), event management software (Regonline and Cvent)
  • Success mentoring and supervising staff and contractors

Salary/Benefits:

  1. Salary range of $70,000-80,000 dependent on education, locality, and experience.
  2. A highly competitive benefits package is offered to all NNPHI staff
  3. 10% travel is required based on location. This could be more or less based on the needs and responsibilities of the role.

NNPHI maintains two physical offices in Washington, DC, and New Orleans, Louisiana. We also offer Atlanta-based applicants the option to work remotely. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will commence remotely. Ultimately, NNPHI requires the position will be based in either of our three locations. Therefore, applicants should indicate their preference to work in NNPHI offices located in New Orleans, Atlanta, or Washington, DC. We will also consider applicants based outside of these locations, but preference is given to the listed locations.
